USES:
To prevent the animal scratching, biting, licking or chewing at wounds, stitches or bandages.
N.B. The animal can still eat and drink provided the bucket is the right size; otherwise it will have to be removed at regular intervals. Remember it is very important your pet can drink regularly in summer.
The animal may show some signs of disorientation but will quickly get used to the bucket.
HOW TO MAKE ONE:
Get a plastic bucket that will fit your dog or cat's head. Small flowerpots can be used for cats. Make sure the end extends well beyond the animal's nose
Cut a circular piece from the bottom of the bucket
This hole should be large enough to slip over your pet's head easily and allow a 2 finger gap between the edge and your pet's neck, all the way around.
Make a series of holes around the bucket, close to the base.
Thread gauze, material or string through these holes and around the animal's collar. The collar should be loose enough so that three fingers can fit under it. Make sure your pet's head is completely inside the bucket. As the bucket is tied to the collar, it is important that the collar is robust enough and cannot be pulled off over the head.
If you have difficulties in making this bucket or find it inconvenient, please do not hesitate to ask our receptionists for assistance. We stock a full range of Elizabethan collars at both our clinics.
